As another week comes to a close, I'd like to leave you with a thought.
We expect change in almost every area of our lives. We know we'll gain experience, learn new skills, navigate challenges and see the world differently as the years pass. We celebrate personal growth, yet we often expect the career decisions we made years ago to continue serving us without ever questioning whether they still fit.
Perhaps that's why so many people reach a point where something no longer feels quite right. Nothing has necessarily gone wrong. Life has simply done what life does, it has changed us.
The people I work with who create careers they genuinely enjoy don't have all the answers. What they do have is the willingness to check in with themselves regularly. They don't assume that the version of success they were chasing ten years ago is the same one they want today. They give themselves permission to pause, reflect and ask whether their career is still supporting the person they have become.
This weekend, rather than thinking about where you want to be next, spend some time noticing how you've changed.
Three Questions To Take Into Your Weekend
1. In what ways have I changed over the past five years that I haven't fully acknowledged?
Think beyond your job title. Consider your values, your confidence, your priorities, your relationships and what gives your life meaning. You may discover you've grown more than you've given yourself credit for.
2. Which parts of my current career still reflect the person I am today, and which parts belong to an earlier version of me?
This isn't about judging past decisions. It's about recognising that a decision can have been exactly right at one stage of your life and still no longer be the right fit today.
3. If I gave myself permission to design my career for the person I am now, what might I start doing differently?
Don't worry about whether it's practical just yet. Simply notice where your thinking goes. Sometimes the first step towards change is allowing yourself to imagine that another way is possible.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Michelle
