As the week closes, this is worth sitting with.
When leadership gets hard, it is easy to look outward first. At the pressure. The people. The resistance. The noise. The competing demands. The things that are not moving fast enough.
But adaptive leadership asks something deeper of us.
It asks us to pause and consider what we are bringing into the challenge.
Our mindset.
Our assumptions.
Our tone.
Our level of steadiness.
Our openness to listen.
Our willingness to create trust instead of control.
Because when the path is unclear, people do not just respond to the plan. They respond to the leader. They notice whether you are grounded or reactive. Whether you are inviting contribution or closing it down. Whether you are leading from authority alone or from within.
That is why this work matters.
Before we can ask others to stretch, adapt, or stay in the discomfort of change, we need to be doing that work ourselves. Real leadership starts there.
So, as you finish the week, do not just ask what you achieved.
Ask how you showed up.
Three reflection questions for the week:
- Where this week did I lead from authority, and where did I lead from within?
- What signals of trust and connection did I create, or miss, in my team?
- What is one shift I want to make next week in how I show up as a leader?
