This week I shared the story of leaving my corporate career nearly 15 years ago.
It was a leap - one tied deeply to my values of love, growth, adventure and harmony. And looking back now, I can see that decision taught me things I couldn’t have learned by staying where it felt safe.
So, for this Friday Fuel, here are three personal lessons I’ve carried from that moment:
1) Alignment doesn’t always feel easy - but it feels true, ultimately
Leaving wasn’t easy. There were doubts, worries and plenty of unknowns. But underneath all of that was a quiet knowing that my work and life needed to feel more like they belonged together. Sometimes the right decision doesn’t feel comfortable. It feels honest.
2) Bravery is quieter than we expect
I used to think brave looked bold and fearless. But my experience was different. It was quiet brave. The kind that takes one step, then another. The kind that keeps going when the path isn’t clear yet. The kind that backs the life you said you wanted, even when certainty would feel easier.
3) You may have to leave a version of yourself before you can become the next one
Leaving corporate wasn’t just leaving a role. It was leaving an identity, a structure, a title, and a way of measuring success I knew well. That part was vulnerable. But it also created space for something new to grow - work and a life that feel much more aligned to who I am.
As you head into the weekend, maybe take a moment to reflect:
What part of your life or leadership is asking for more alignment?
Where might quiet bravery be needed?
What version of yourself might you be ready to outgrow?
Sometimes the life you want doesn’t begin with a perfect plan. It begins with one brave step.
Have a lovely weekend.
